XCOM: Enemy Unknown iOS Version Review | GodisaGeek

GodisaGeek: "XCOM: Enemy Unknown isnt just one of the best iPad games available, its one of the best games available, full stop. If you havent already picked it up on console or Windows PC and dont have PlayStation Plus, which would enable you to get the game for absolutely nothing then you owe it to yourself to pick up this iOS version. Its a little bit pricey when it comes to iOS games (weighing in at over a tenner) but when you consider that youre getting essentially a full console game, playable on the move, its a steal."

XCOM: Enemy Unknown came out last fall for the PS3 and Xbox 360, which signaled the arrival of Firaxis fan favorite turn-based strategy franchise on consoles for the first time. Both longtime and new fans of the XCOM franchise heralded Enemy Unknown as a deep and satisfying gameplay experience that didnt sacrifice the best parts of the series to get it to work on the new platforms. Everything from the controls to the mission layouts and strategies required for winning remained true to the franchises roots, which is why it has been universally praised for its accomplishments.

| NZ Gamer - XCOM Enemy Unknown Review

NZ Gamer - Last time I looked at this game I wrote an unconventional review. I also gave it a score of 9.0 because it was one of the best games I played. Mixing intense strategy with sci-fi action, XCOM reminded gamers what it was like to lose a life (with Ironman mode taking us back to the days before multiple save games).

From GamesReviews:
"The most common complaint leveled against mobile gaming is the seeming lack of console-quality experiences which, despite being a bit of a moot point (its a tablet, not a console, correct?), is grounded in some real complaints. There are too many money-hungry free-to-play games, and way too many physics puzzlers and endless runners in the App Store so when Firaxis and 2K announced a fully-featured handheld port of the award-winning XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it presented an opportunity for the platform to show off its skills beyond forgettable $1 titles."

IGN;Coming in at over 2GB and $20, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a large and expensive game in the mobile market, but that shouldn't dissuade strategy gamers from giving it a try. Even without the multiplayer or DLC features, it offers more depth than you'll find in most, if not all, other strategy titles in the App store. There's more than enough game here to justify the space the game will take up in your budget and your iPad memory.

Here's a thought: Firaxis's Gold Award-winning iOS turn-based strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown isn't expensive. We've just been spoilt.
Here's a second thought: If we want iOS to be taken seriously as a gaming platform, we need more premium-priced titles on the App Store.
Money, money, money
